My dad calls me up last night and walks me through this revolutionary idea he has regarding a constitutional right that maintains people should be treated equally regardless of income. For example, why should Miami University students (NOT RESIDENTS) have the right to vote on tax levies in the town when they will have no responsibility for paying for it. It seems for every little idea I always have, my dad also has the 10x bigger idea. But, that's why he's the mann.
I trust the mann can put the idea into a concise blog this week that explains his position. I agree with him. Citizens that do not pay taxes should not have the right to vote on propositions/laws/levies that in some way affect the level of taxes collected...if they do not contribute, of what value is their opinion? Now, sales taxes are another thing - since everyone is equal when it comes to sales tax. Exception.
Look forward to The Mann's contribution later this week.

No Taxation
So is it just me, or is this simply the reverse of one of the major causes for the American Revolution. I believe it was the British who felt comfortable taxing the colonies without allowing them a seat in their parliment. "No Taxation without Representation" if I remember correctly from my 8th grade world history class.
So that in my opinion would also mean that mean you should not participate in assigning taxation unless you are representative of the group paying the taxes.
The question I have is this....Does this opinion that only those that pay the taxes have a right to a vote on those taxes place us back to the days when only Land-owning citizens were given the right to vote. I am removing the additional racial and gender criteria from that statement intentionally.
I look forward to Mr. Weber's perspective on this.
Scott - history class would tell you the colonies were paying taxes. One of the ideas behind this is perspective is what is to stop the government from passing a law forcing redistribution of income, or effectively initiating socialism? The country is approaching a point where a major group of voters do not pay taxes (I need that %). What is to stop them from deciding that it is in the best interests of the country that income is redistributed to all?
Looks like the mann better post soon to clarify the position.
theres a difference between not paying taxes and not paying income taxes all employees pay taxes not exact but close 52% dont pay income taxes this increased 2 more points in legislation last year bop
